Emma Mulholland

Emma Mulholland is a graduate student from Australia who studied there. I do really love Australian designers. they use a lot more colour and have kind of a beach vibe to their collections obviously living in a hot country and getting to go the beach everyday would influence their designs.
This is Emma's graduate collection. It has kind of a surfer/ beach type feel to it, she has used shells and sequins and ribbons. Her work is certainly noticeable. The colours are bright and bold, the mix of different textiles used is brave, but works well in my opinion and her prints are the best thing about her work. I used her work as inspiration for my Sea Odyssey brief in college, I thought it worked well as my inspiration was the coral and plants underwater. I tried to make my final garment as something you quite possibly could see fitting in with her collection, my garment turned out well.

Marit Fujiwara

Marit Fujiwara is a Textile graduate from Chelsea college of Art and design. She graduated in 2009. These images are from her graduate collection titled 'WOUND'.
Everything from the mix of materials, the colours, the machine embroidery - they all just make for an amazing collection. The first time I saw the first image of a dress I have posted I thought it was paints and paper, I then looked at the up close images and realised a lot of hard work has gone into each of her samples and pieces. I love the idea of singling out only parts of the material and coving the rest in embroidery making the other bits stand out. I haven't saw any of her research and inspiration for this collection but I can already see that parts of the images do look like the types of things you would see on or in the body - in a lot more pleasant and decorative way. I would say she is one of my favourite textile designs as her work is unlike any others I have seen, I can only hope my textile work is as unique and amazing as hers.
